My Week in Books…

I started listening to David Grohl’s The Storyteller months ago. I mostly only listened in the shower or when cooking… but then I started creating situations where I could listen. Im not a huge audible fan, I much prefer physical books or my kindle. I reserve my audible points for Autobiographies that are read by the author. My last audiobook was Spare, by Prince Harry. Otherwise, the narration takes me out of my imagination and almost ruins the story for me. I wish it was otherwise, I would love to knit while listening.

This book was phenomenal, so may of his stories were very similar to my own- growing up in a punk scene in Detroit and having wild experiences that other people never believe. I had a lot of lovely nostalgia in the beginning- and then a lot of solidarity in the end, when he went more into parenthood and his older years.

I laughed out loud more than once, and unlike a lot of the naysayers on Goodreads, I didn’t mind the humble brags or the name dropping. I don’t think any of it was gratuitous- it seemed to fit the story at hand. Besides, if I frequently hung out with Paul McCartney, bet your ASS I would tell EVERYONE about it as often as possible!!!!

This was a TOTAL 5 start book for me, and Olive is now reading it in the physical while listening along after listening to me talk about it and randomly laughing my ass off while cooking.

The next slew of books I read was a complete tone shift from what I had been reading. I needed an intensity break after finishing Lucy by the Sea. I read the Love Hypothesis and 3 novellas by Ali Hazelwood. They were all perfectly fine. The Love Hypothesis was on my radar for a long time. My kids sent it to me because they heard somewhere that it was a Kylo Ren and Rey fan fic. I am obsessed with Kylo Ren and sobbed in the theater when….. it all happened. 🙂

This story was great in that I pictured Ben Solo and it gave me closure. 🙂 It was a romance with the Grumpy/Sunshine and Fake Dating tropes I love so much. Very predictable and followed the Hazelwood formula… so, it was as good as I needed it to be. I had read “Love, Theoretically” in the last 6 months and I think I was technically supposed to read this one first.

Her three novellas that I read were all great- same BIG MAN and TINY WOMAN energy, all based in STEM and who can ask for more when you need a mental break?
I rated them 4-5 stars on Goodreads because that is my rating for well written romance- it isn’t Faulkner… but it isn’t supposed to be in my opinion! Each storyline was inventive and original and the character buy in was there. I found the unbelievable parts of each to be acceptable and would highly recommend to any other nerdy, science types that like romance.
