Discovery of Witches….

In honor of the new release of THE BLACKBIRD ORACLE- I wanted to run down memory lane for a minute

it was the fall of 2014-

we had been back in Detroit for a year- and I was struggling to figure out what my next steps were. jared was working at a new start up- and that is a million hours a week. I was working on starting my own essential oil business and FAILING hard. But I wanted the community and I was pushing myself to keep going.

In an attempt to widen my circle and network- I joined a book club. The book was discovery of witches- I had to take it out from the library because I couldn’t afford my own copy. We were in a HARD spot, waiting on Jareds stock to be “sell-able” and living in a lot of transition energy. A waiting period.

The book sucked me in and I failed out of the book club 🙂 Within days I was picking up the second and then third copies. I was hooked.

The book became a comfort read for me over the years. We have gone through some HARD things. Almost divorces. Stressful and confusing medical scares.

In these times, Diana’s story of resilience (and reluctance) really soothed me. We joke that how I am feeling about Jared shifts how I feel about Matthew- sometimes I read and I am smitten. Sometimes I read and thinks she should dump his ass.

The community around the series is amazing- I even traveled to Philadelphia when I was 5 months pregnant with Juniper to attend a “All Souls Convention”.

I met the author- Deborah Harkness and got to preview the first episode of the TV show adaptation.

People always say “Never meet your hero” but I am happy to say that so far I have met Ray Bradbury, Brian Froud and Deborah Harkness and they were all wonderful!

I didn’t get a picture with Ray Bradbury (may he Rest In Peace)… but I dropped my picture of Brian Froud at the bottom of this post. HE was an absolute LEGEND to me. I was beside myself when I met him.

His work carried me in hard times. I carried his Faeries book in my backpack in high school, jumped in a dumpster after it when an ex threw my stuff away. Packed it in my car when I moved cross country.

Here are random screen grabs of my all souls posts over the years- these are from my long abandoned instagram inchiostrofam.
